How to choose between epoxy resin or polyurethane flooring ?

Sika’s range of decorative resin flooring systems allows you to meet the needs of every project with a suitable product.

Resin flooring according to the intended use:
When choosing between epoxy resin flooring and polyurethane resin flooring, the choice will depend on the desired criteria: mechanical resistance (UPEC classification), flexibility, acoustic performance, UV resistance, etc., as well as the desired finish.

Depending on the required criteria and the different zones within a building, one solution or the other will be preferred. Both chemistries are suitable for public spaces (healthcare facilities, schools, cultural venues, shops, offices) as well as for residential use.

Due to its lower cost, epoxy resin is generally preferred when the substrate allows it. It is therefore very popular on concrete surfaces. It modernizes industrial floors, entrance halls, and high-traffic corridors.

Polyurethane resin is perfectly suited to more demanding surfaces, while maintaining its durability over time. More pleasant to the touch, it is often associated with more prestigious spaces, such as offices and coworking spaces.

A floor resin with aesthetic effects:
The desired finish can also influence the choice between the two types of resin. Epoxy resin can provide a solid floor finish, a speckled finish, or a terrazzo effect after sanding.

In addition to solid colors, polyurethane resin allows for the creation of marbled effects with the skillful touch of a professional. The patterns then adapt to the geometry of the space, integrating perfectly into the surroundings. Your floor will then be unique.
